Blackness and Black Identity is a global experience, rich with culture and generational storytelling that ornate who we are and where we have been. It is our Blackness that influences our art, ignites our activism, and helps us imagine what an afro-futuristic world looks like.

FILMMAKER AWARDEE’S

Brennan Maine

Winner of the 2021 Black Haven Film Festival

“I am a multi-media artist whose current focus is on expressing the natural word in the digital space. I am in awe of nature, from its fantastically explosive acts, to its quieter moments that pull you into the present and to the tender and intimate exchanges between loved ones in our human experience.

Using my body as a tool of my artistic expression, digital printmaking, film-work, and my modeling I hope to translate these moments that help inspire or and pull you into both self and the interconnectivity of life.”

  • Black Haven is a first-of-its-kind short film festival that seeks to celebrate Black art and representation—but it’s also more than that. It’s time to break down the long-standing systems that keep excellent, genius art from being supported, funded, seen, celebrated and held at the status that it rightfully deserves.

Black Haven Film Festival 2021 has been made possible by our partner and dear friends at Black Infinity Collective, formerly known as CT CORE.

Thank you to our community sponsors ConnCorp, City of New Haven Arts Culture and Tourism, Community Foundation of Greater New Haven, Long Wharf Theatre, International Festival of Arts & Ideas and The Arts Council of Greater New Haven.
